First Ever Seisiún na h-Éireann Festival CD

Quin, Co. Clare, June 9th 2007 – The Seisiún na h-Éireann festival committee will launch the much anticipated Seisiún na h-Éireann 2006 session CD at the Glór (www.glor.ie), Ennis, Co. Clare. This CD was recorded live at the finalists’ concert at the Seisiún na h-Éireann festival in Quin, Co. Clare in September 2006.

This 14 track CD features almost 50 musicians representing 7 pubs from around Ireland who made the final stage of the weekend long competition. The pubs included groups from Tigh Coilí – Galway, The Abbey Tavern – Quin, Eugene’s Bar – Tullamore, The Cobblestone – Dublin, Norrie Henchy’s – Clooney, Keily’s – Donnybrook and an individual from Skippers Tavern – Letterkenny.

Well known musicians are featured including Don Stiff, Dessie O’Halloran, Dermot Lernihan, Denis Liddy, Johnny “Ringo” McDonagh, Jim McKillop, Ronan O’Flaherty, Dermot O’Hanlon and a host of up-and-coming musicians from some of the best known Irish Traditional Music session pubs in the country.

Recorded live at the concert, the CD was mixed and mastered at Soundworks Studios in Dublin with CD design/artwork by Francis Kennedy (www.kennedyart.net) and will be released for purchase from the festival website www.besttradsession.com.

About the Festival

Seisiún na hEireann is a Session Competition, which takes part in the picturesque village of Quin, Co. Clare, Ireland on the last weekend of September every year. In 2007 the festival will host its 4th year of competition.

The Festival prize fund includes €5,000 for the winner and prizes for Best overseas entry and other runner-up prizes. The winning publican receives a plaque declaring its status as Winner of Seisiún Na h-Eireann – Best Traditional Irish Music Session in the World. Sessions take place in the pubs of Quin over the course of the weekend.

Previous year’s entries have boasted up to 22 groups of famous and upcoming musicians representing traditional Irish music pubs all over the World. Quin Village comes alive with the very best of music for a full three days culminating in a Grand Finale on Sunday afternoon in the Community Hall, one of the highlights of the festival.

This was a fantastic event where over 500 people enjoyed almost three hours of great traditional entertainment in the Glór Irish Music Centre free of charge. The CD released on the night includes some great session groups and captures that unique feel of a genuine traditional session.
