Oisín Mac Diarmada - solo concert - Coatesville, PA

The evening of Sunday, Oct. 16 brings to Coatesville. PA, a rare solo performance by the talented young Sligo-style fiddler and traditional music scholar Oisín Mac Diarmada. An acknowledged leader in a new generation of talented Irish musicians, he nonetheless stays within arm's reach of Irish fiddling's venerable roots.

Oisín holds an honors degree in Music Education from Trinity College, Dublin, and keeps busy as an instructor, journalist, lecturer, producer and musician. Whether heard on his own or sparsely accompanied by a flute, bodhran, piano or a second fiddle, he exhibits a unique sound and approach, with unfussy yet intricate bowing and remarkably subtle phrasing for so young a player. Although Mac Diarmada is tirelessly active on the world stage, his music has a charmingly intimate feeling. Oisín has released a number of outstanding recordings, including his acclaimed solo CD Ar an bhFidil (On the Fiddle), the earlier Traditional Music on Fiddle, Banjo & Harp, and four full ensemble releases with his colleagues in the band ‘Teada’.

In Oisín Mac Diarmada, we find a fiddler of “old-head-on-young-shoulders” sensibilities. We hear centuries of tradition and doubtless long hours of dedication in his music, and we are proud to welcome him to our stage.
