CARLOVIAN TRADITIONAL IRISH MUSIC CLUB

Dia dhaoibh go léir!

I hope this message finds everyone well and happy. First, thanks to all who came along to our last concert featuring Tony McMahon. It was a magic night, and I’m sure that the majority of those present will say that it will linger in the memory. I know Tony himself was overwhelmed with the response, so once again you music-lovers of Carlow have done yourselves proud!!

We are on again for next Friday night, February 2nd 2007 . We bring a trio of exceptionally talented men from the city of Belfast to Carlow for a night of special music. I heard these men perform in Belfast over the Christmas and was blown away by their precision, technique and sheer fun on stage. First up is Dessie Adams on flute. The “big man” continues the strong, rhythmic Belfast style of flute playing. He plays a repertoire of tunes not found too readily in this region. Ruaidhraí O’Kane comes from impeccable music stock. He has been making a lot of waves on the festival scene recently and we look forward to the cd he is recording with his two fellow visitors- it has been too long since his solo cd, released about eight years ago! He has a wonderful selection of tunes and is fearless in his approach to music. The guitar player on the night is Steve Dunne. I don’t have a lot of knowledge about Steve, but I do know he sounded brilliant that night in Belfast. Come along and see what you think yourself!!

The gig takes place in the usual place, The Carlovian, Tullow Street , Carlow. Admission, I’m afraid, has to return to €15 as we have three musicians to pay and feed this time. We hope to start at 9.30, so do come along in time so we can begin promptly. Once again, we do need numbers to keep the club viable, not just financially- that magic atmosphere that all visitors rave about is not possible in a half-empty room!

I hope you can come along. If you meet someone you think may be interested, please let them know, as we may be missing some trad-heads out there!

Slán go fóill,

Dave
