It's here again. Maine Pipes and Fiddle Fall edition.
The same great instruction in Scottish Smallpipes and fiddle, but more.
Fiddle instruction is focused on the Scottish style of the Canadian Maritimes. Tunes are taught by ear with an emphasis on dance music. While the event began as a piping focused weekend, fiddlers now make up half or more of the attendees.
For smallpipees, MPF is all about introducing the Scottish piper into the larger musical world. Our emphasis is on teaching the dance music of Scotland and the Canadian Maritimes (Cape Breton and PEI) to pipers in a non-highland pipe band way. While the dots are made available, classes are taught by ear with a strong emphasis on learning to properly tap the beat out with our feet. The majority of attendees consider the weekend a life-altering experience. Plus it's pretty low-key and a lot of fun.
For the second time we're bringing a Guitar instructor along. So if anyone is interested in learning the ins and outs of guitar accompaniment for this type of music, please let us know.
Also, for the first time ever, we're very excited to have a second smallpipe instructor. We didn't ever expect MPF to get large enough for this to happen, but this Spring we had too many smallpipers for one class. So we're ecstatic about hosting Tim Cummings as our second smallpipes instructor. That means we'll have two levels of piping classes, which should make it easier for the more beginner pipers and for the more advanced pipers to learn at the right pace.
