The 16th-18th of October sees the return of one Ireland newest traditional music festivals - 'Scoil Cheoil na Botha', to Scotstown, Co. Monaghan. After very well received festivals in 2007 and 2008, which featured artists including Frankie Gavin, Mairtin O'Connor, Noel Hill, John Carty, Brian Mc Grath, Fr. Seamus Quinn, Muireann Nic Amhloaibh, Enda Scahill and many others, 2009 once again sees a stellar cast of traditional artists descend on the north Monaghan village of Scotstown.
This year Scoil Cheoil na Botha returns with an extended programme of workshops, sessions and concerts and set dancing.
The line-up for 2009 continues Scoil Cheoil na Botha's committment to bringing the finest traditional talent to the border region.
After a festival launch in Mc Cague's Bar on Friday 16th, Saturday 17th will feature workshops on a wide range of instruments in St Mary's National School from 11a.m. until 3.30 p.m. with a break for lunch. Registration will take place from 10a.m. until 11a.m and workshop fee is 20 euro with family discounts provided.
The tutors for 2009 are among Ireland's finest traditional musicians. They include:
Mick Mulcahy (button accordion), Louise Mulcahy (flute), TG4’s Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2006 - Michelle Mulcahy (harp), TG4's Yong Traditional Musician of the Year 2004 - Edel Fox (concertina), Ronan O'Flaherty (fiddle), Dave Sheridan (fiddle), Gerard Moloney (piano accordion), TG4's Traditional Singer of the Year 2004- Rosie Stewart (singing), Shane Mulcrone (banjo), Padraig Mc Govern (uilleann pipes).
These same tutors will perform on the evening of the 17th October at 9.30p.m. in St Mary's Hall, Urbleshanney. Tickets are priced at 10 euro. Early booking is advisable.
Sunday 18th will featured set dancing with the ever popular Emerald Ceili Band in Urbleshanney Hall from 3pm-6pm. Admission 10euro and refreshments will be served.
Music sessions and singing sessions will take place throughout the village during the course of the weekend, featuring some of Ireland's finest young musicians. Musicians from Clare, Galway, Dublin, Cavan, Leitrim will perform in a number of sessions throughout the village. Please find a comprehensive session guide attached to this email.
