This great trad festival, now in its 40th year, starts off on Sunday 17th May with a mega céilí in Ennis Fairgreen where an attempt on the world record for a Siege of Ennis will be made. The present record of over 8,000 dancers is held by Cork and was set in 2005. All proceeds from this event go to the Special Olympics - see http://www.fleadhnua.com//siege_of_ennis.php.
The website at http://www.fleadhnua.com//index.php outlines a whole host of events throughout the nine days of the festival. Although the Kilfenora Céilí Band concert in Glór has been booked out for some time you can still see the Band on the first Sunday playing for dancers in the record breaking Siege of Ennis.
Tickets for the Chieftains concert in the Ennis Cathedral on the Wednesdy night are selling briskly so it's recommended that anyone wanting to attend should book up ASAP. Bookings can be made on the Glór website at http://www.glor.ie/What%27s%20On/Irish%20Music_TheChieftains.htm.
Musicians are coming from all over Ireland and abroad to Ennis this year. A particular welcome goes out to the Leeds musicians who'll be bringing over their highly talented Pléaracha group and also the Hounds of Ulster with exciting performances from their Ulster Scots tradition.
