Just checked it out. Looks great. Ridiculously high standard of past winners..Tommy Peoples, Joe Ryan, Gerry O'Connor, Liz Kane, Martin Byrnes. Unreal.

Dancing in the Diamond Takes Off as Fiddlers Return to Monaghan
A revived and re-invigorated Feile Oriel returns to the streets of
Monaghan, quite literally, this May Bank Holiday Weekend as “Dancing
in the Diamond” has managed to catch the imagination of people both
locally and from far afield.
The Feile Oriel festival which will run from 1st – 3rd May in Monaghan
town will be featured in a live broadcast on BBC Radio Ulster. The
event promises to be a major fillip for the town with major interest
in the wide spectrum of events sparked in particular by the
opportunity to go “Dancing in the Diamond” on both Saturday and Sunday
evening.
Organisers are delighted with the interest in this modern day version
of dancing at the crossroads where traditional musicians will play in
the open air and all are welcome to dance the night away under the
stars. They had initially planned a “low key, easy to manage, easy to
run” feile but quickly found that, such was the enthusiasm for the
revival of the festival that it soon took on a life of its own.
The festival, which has seen many of Ireland's finest fiddlers descend
on the town , in the hope of attaining the coveted "Fiddler of Oriel"
title, is being revived after a twelve year absence.
The "Fiddler of Oriel" remains one of the most prestigious and
recognised accolades in Irish traditional music and this year sees the
competition return with both a Senior and Junior competition and
opportunities for substantial cash prizes. The pedigree and romance
associated with previous champions insures that the "Fiddler of Oriel"
remains one of the most prestigious and recognised accolades in Irish
traditional music today.
Information about the festival programme, sessions, concerts,
competitions and accommodation is available from the festival web site

Does anybody know any good places to stay in Monaghan, that aren't as expensive as the fancy hotels? Can't find much online.
