The only way for a self-respecting trad musician to spend the New Year, Scoil Gheimhridh Frankie Kennedy' was established in December 1994 following Frankie's untimely death from cancer in September of that year. The school's vision is to continue his huge contribution to Irish traditional music, especially the music and song of Donegal. This year's Scoil Gheimhridh will take place from Thursday 27th December 2007 until Wednesday 2nd January 2008. All the events will take place in Gaoth Dobhair, Co. Donegal. We will be using 2 principal venues during the school, Ionad Cois Locha (Dunlewey Lakeside Centre) in Dunlewey and Ostán Gaoth Dobhair in Magherclogher.
Classes will be provided in the following: flute, fiddle, uilleann pipes, tin whistle, bodhrán, button accordion, bouzouki, sean nás singing, house dancing and guitar. Classes are not suitable for beginners.
In order to maximise the gain from classes, there will be 10 places available in each class so early booking is advisable. All bookings will be on a first come first served basis. We want to make sure that you get the most benefit from Scoil Gheimhridh Frankie Kennedy.
Students are encouraged to bring recording devices to the class.
