This years Masters of Tradition has another great line-up of top traditional musicians including festival regulars Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill and Steve Cooney alongside people like Christy Moore, Andy Irvine, Paddy O'Brien, Patrick Ourceau, Kitty Hayes and harmonica supremo's Mick Kinsella and Rick Epping, there'll also be a rare chance to hear Lúnasa members Sean Smyth and Kevin Crawford play without the rest of the band, to top it off there's a great fiddle concert with Martin Hayes, Seán Smyth, Caoímhín O'Raghallaigh and Oisín MacDiarmiada.
Please note this is more a listeners festival than a session festival. If you go there looking for loads of sessions you'll be very disappointed! Well worth going for the concerts though.
I am just back from playing in Bantry House on the fridaynight. The festival is indeed lovely, both the setting and the audience are lovely. It's really a relief to be at a festival that is not over-run by the hangers on. But instead is well organised and not centred around getting people into pubs but centred about high quality music instead.
