It starts whenever people start playing and it ends when people stop playing . Seriously though, people start showing up on Sunday, but I don't think anything is officially scheduled (workshops, concerts, lectures, etc.) until Monday. Sunday is a day to sorta move in, meet old acquaintances, start drinking, and if you have time after doing all the previous stuff, start playing.
If anyone steill needs a place to stay, I cancelled my reservation at Stack's Lamp post Inn, Rt 145, 622-9703 for the week. It an OK motel with small kitchens. Sessions and classes were held there is the past.
I have so much fun during IAW that I bought a house nearby.
I'll be teaching Celtic jewelry making using the ancient sand casting method.... really fun, great results....in case anyone wants to sign up, I believe it's an afternoon class. Think it will be at Weldon House.
Hey Hugh
Now that's dedication!!--will you be taking classes too?
You know I'll be seeing you Iris--can't wait (I'll give you a ring this week)
Did I read correctly a while back that Conan won't be coming this year??--I was hoping for some tunes this time around (only had a few last year--all these youngsters can play all night!!! I couldn't keep up!)
'Tis true, Conan won't be coming this year. I'm also p*ssed 'cause I was hoping he could tell me how the Willie Week was which I was SUPPOSED TO GO TO!!!!!! ::shakes fist at something::
The 12th annual Catskills Irish Arts Week is just days away in East Durham, New York. To whet the appetite and set the scene, Albany photographer Tim Raab just put up his webpage with sights and sounds from the 2005 CIAW which we will be displaying at the Quill Centre during this year's week.
By the way, at the suggestion of Catskills veterans Billy McComiskey, Mike McHale and Jimmy Kelly, Sr. we have added on a great session over in the town of Leeds, New York at the Inn at Leeds on Route 23 B which we are calling "LEEDS IN THE RARE OULD TIMES" to mark the historic role the small town played decades ago keeping the tradition alive up in the Irish Catskills. It will be on Wednesday, July 12 from around 9 p.m. The Inn at Leeds is owned by Gertie and John Byrne and they will offer a special CIAW supper menu from 5 to 9 pm as well for anyone heading there.
I'm going, & taking applications for potential roommates for a prepaid room at Furlongs... Eddie's gone & moved to West Clare & can't afford airfare back from Willie Week, that hussy! Email me through the site if you are interested!
I know , I know, I've been lurking only.
I'm headed to the catskills for the first time- I've got a few friends going- but am feeling totally lost without that carefully crafted schedule I always got for Swannoa- actually , that was part of what i wanted to get away from- but- how do I avoid wandering around lost? Are there good places to hang out ? I'm staying at a B &B outside town- how's parking? I'm a pretty intermediate fiddler - how do i find people to play with that challenge me but not intimidate? Good stories?
Does it really start at 10am on Sunday?!
