It's back again! The second Ar Ais Arís Traditional Arts Festival kicks off in Buncrana, Co. Donegal on March 29 th for a weekend of top class music, song and dance. Following on from the success of last years inaugural event, which celebrated the wealth of local talent from the area, the 2007 festival will see the home-grown stars welcome their own musical friends and heroes to Inishowen. Ciaran Tourish and Dermot Byrne of Altan fame will host artists of the calibre of Paul Brady, Frankie Gavin and Steve Cooney in 'The Best of Budgen' concert, while 'The Dohertys Welcome' features Kevin Doherty (Four Men and a Dog) and Liz Doherty with special guests such as Jerry Holland , Howie MacDonald and Mac Morin from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada, along with Henry McCullough and Gerry 'Banjo' O'Connor.
Local fiddler and long time resident of Conneticut, P.V. O'Donnell , will be honoured in a special tribute concert featuring Tommy Peoples , Brian McGrath , Aileach and, specially reformed for the occasion, 1970s band Barley Bree . The St. Roch's Ceili Band from Glasgow will provide the music for a Ceili Mór and Step-Dance Extravaganza, while last years highlight, The Pyros , featuring banjo wizard Paul Rodden , return for two late night slots and the recording of a new live album. Along with a session and pub gig trail, workshops, free recitals, singers circle and open mic, schools programme and children's art exhibition, Ar Ais Arís , which will run from Thursday through 'til Sunday, offers something for everyone.
