The Melbourne Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann is hosting a day of Irish culture, music, dance and song performed by international and local artists.
Musical Workshops
Whistle for beginners – learn the rudiments of with tin whistle with Noel Mc Grann who currently teaches at the Comhaltas every Wednesday night
Concertina for beginners – Given by Mark McDonnell.
Fiddle for beginners – this is being taken by Aiden Barker from the ever popular Irish trad. Band, Trouble in the Kitchen.
Flute and Bodhran – Ben Stephenson, also from Trouble in the Kitchen, will be this class for experience musicians.
A Fiddle master class will be given by Kevin Burke. As only limited spaces are available for this workshop please contact Noel McGrann at mcgrann@optusnet.com.au for registration.
Guitar – Ged Foley, who is on tour with Kevin, will be taking a workshop, see over.
Uilleann Pipes - A class will be taken by Paddy Keenan, a renowned exponent of both the whistle and uilleann pipes who is also here on tour. See over
Singing – A workshop in Irish traditional singing will be given by Catherine Clements.
Dance Workshops
Two Hand Dances – A workshop for beginners will be given by Marie Brouder who currently teaches at the Comhaltas every Wednesday night.
Set Dancing – This workshop will be taken by Alannah Fitzpatrick..
Free Concert
A concert will take place throughout the day from 11.00 am to approx 5.00pm with performances by local and international musicians. Also, step dancing exhibitions, story telling, poetry and singing will be held. This will be performed in the Senior Citizens Centre adjacent to the Collingwood Town Hall
Céilí
A Céili, an Irish dance, will be held in Collingwood Town Hall in the evening starting approximately at 7.30pm till late for everyone to come along and take part.
It's *Adrian* Barker who's taking the Fiddle class - a mighty player well known and respected around the aussie scene...
and *Alarna* Fitzpatrick is taking the set dancing. She's an amazing dancer and teacher who taught the Harp Irish set dancers up in Sydney with her Aunt, Trish McGrath.
