Éigse An Spidéil

I'm not officially involved with this festival but since no one has put it in the events list I thought I would. It's a small festival but there is one outstanding trad concert on Saturday 3rd, there'll also be good sessions in Hughes Pub no doubt.

The official blurb on the festival is below.

Éigse An Spidéil, the annual cultural festival that will feature traditional music concerts and an international traditional dance show, will run from Thursday 1 March until Sunday 11 March.

The festival will be opened by Edel Ní Chuireáin, Ceannaire RTÉ Raidio na Gaeltachta on Thursday 1 March at 7.30pm followed by a lecture on the Flight of the Earls 'Teitheadh, Imeacht no Turas na nIarlaí as Éirinn 1607' by Dr Nollaig O Muiríle, NUI, Galway.

Donegal poet Cathal O Searcaigh will give a poetry reading alongside many local poets on Friday, 2 March at 8 pm.

***The concert on Saturday, 3 March is a music extravagance with some of the country's best traditional musicians, Tommy and Siobhán Peoples and the Tipperary box player Murty Ryan, Noel Hill and Brian McGrath. ****

The focus will be on celebrating young artists working in Conemara on Sunday, 4 March when Michael D. Higgins will open three separate art exhibitions by Dan O Flathartha, Aoife Casby and Ceara Conway in the library in Spiddal and in Boluisce Restaurant at 4.30pm followed by a music session in Hughes Pub.

**The Traditional Dance Exhibition on Friday 9 March will see Flamenco dancers from Spain, Cappeuro dancers from Brazil alongside Sean-Nos dancers from Connemara. Music for this event will be provided by Curro Luna (vocalist), Juan Hernando (guitar) from Spain and Harry Bradley and Colm Devan.** Comortas Tom Pháidín Tom, a Sean-Nos singing competition, will be held Saturday 10 March at 8pm and Comortas Pheatsaí Uí Cheannabhain a Sean-Nos singing competition for under 18 will be held in Coláiste Chonnacht on Saturday morning at 11.30am.

**On Sunday 11 March, Irish music will be provided by the young students of An Gaelacadamh and some of their teachers, Eilís Lennon, Liz Kane, Johnny O Connolly, Tommy Kane, Colm Gannon and Mary Bergin in Hughes Pub at 12.30pm.**

All events will take part in Park Lodge Hotel with the exception of the music sessions in Hughes Pub and the opening of the Art Exhibitions in the library.

Éigse an Spidéil is organised by An Gaelacadamh Teo. Further information and tickets are available from their office at 091-553124 or caitrionanioibicin@eircom.net.
