It’s your chance to try something new this Labour weekend. Relax in beautiful Moore’s Valley and experience many styles of music and dance. Slow down, join in, chat, eat, drink and be merry.
~Concerts by guest performers
Tim Van Eyken (England)
Multi-instrumentalist and singer Tim van Eyken has blazed an enviable trail since first coming to public awareness by winning the 1998 BBC Young Folk Award. Since then he has played in several well known bands, and more recently has embarked on a highly successful solo career and is a leading light in the English folk scene.
Pat Higgins (Wellington Irish)
Originally from County Galway, Pat is an active member of the Wellington folk music scene. He’s a traditional musician whose talents include playing wooden flute, tin whistle and guitar. He tells a wry tale and sings a tune or twenty.
Forbidden Joe (Auckland)
From soul come the wailing moaning blues, over to sweet Appalachian ditties, and then down to wild tunes from the dark folds of Eastern Europe. They sing, harmonise, shape and deliver their music with vibrant energy. All this, from just a concertina, 'cello, and banjo. Add voices.
Mount Misery (Wellington)
Songs about women on trains, about old cars left to die in the yard, and about men who give up true love for music and a life on the road. This string band, featuring Carol Bean, Richard Klein, Costa Botes, Andrew Delahunty and Barry Carter, is a dynamic mix of acoustic tones.
Jugularity (Australia)
Folk Jazz Comedy Cabaret including parodies of blues, gypsy, country and rap. Fabulous fiddling from Ernie Gruner, power percussion from Peter Vadiveloo, beastly bass-playing from Gavan McCarthy, grandiloquent guitar with awesome anecdotes from Bruce Stephens.
~Jam sessions anywhere, any time ~Storytelling
~Dance workshops (Cape Breton, Irish set dance, Contra dance, Morris, Irish step dance)
~Children’s clown workshop ~Join the festival choir
