RETURN OF RÓDSEÓ NA GAEILGE!

RETURN OF RÓDSEÓ NA GAEILGE!

POBAL’s Ródseó na Gaeilge is set to kick off in Belfast’s Linen Hall Library on 22nd May with the cream of Irish language musicians, poets and performing artists. Building on an extremely successful series of events 2 years ago, POBAL in conjunction with the Art’s Council of Northern Ireland are hosting a series of events that showcases the highest calibre Irish language performers.

This year the Ródseó features the award-winning Belfast poet Gearóid MacLochlainn who will be performing alongside the piper Eoin Dillon. Eoin is easily recognisable as a member of the renowned Celtic-fusion group ‘Kila’.

Joining them will be Pauline Scanlon, the Dingle singer who has toured extensively with the Sharon Shannon band and has recorded with Sinéad Ó Connor and Kirsty McColl amongst others. Pauline will be accompanied by guitar player Donogh Hennessy from the legendary traditional music super-group, Lúnasa.

The Ródseó will in Belfast’s Linen Hall Library on Monday the 22nd May, Clan na Gael GAA club in Lurgan on Tuesday 23rd May, The Bank bar in Newry on Wednesday the 24th May, St.Patrick’s Trian Centre on Thursday the 25th May in Downpatrick. The Ródseó will also be visiting Derry on the Friday the 26th, will be in Ballycastle in the Marine Hotel on Tuesday the 30th May, Strabane in the New Library on Wednesday the 31st May and finishes in Enniskillen on Thursday the 1st June.

Re: RETURN OF RÓDSEÓ NA GAEILGE!

Hi Maria,

"Rodseo" (not sure if I can insert fadas on my 'puter) Is this a new addition to O'Donaill's ? :-) What next ? (scratches head with big grin smiley)

Outside of the artists you've named.....do local musicians etc participate at the various venues ? Just curious.....and you didn't give a venue for the Derry date....again just curious :-) I know An Gaelaras has the facilities.

Re: RETURN OF RÓDSEÓ NA GAEILGE!

The Derry venue is not confirmed yet. Watch this space for more information regarding this venue.

Local musicians will be involved in the organisation and promotion of these events but will not be directly performing on the evenings.

Re: RETURN OF RÓDSEÓ NA GAEILGE!

Ród-seó is just the way to say Road show in Gaeilge Strath.
This is going to be a great series of concerts, we are all very excited by the line up this year, simply because they are young and innovative, not to mention the fact that it will be great craic!
Wanna go Strath?
Anyway, the venue in Derry will be at the Waterside, although that may change, only because there have been a few alterations to the dates. You know what its like, if you change one date, it throws everything else up in the air at times.
Local musicians may have the chance to hit the session with these guys after the concerts, but as you well know, it can be tiring trawling yourself through the countryside, so we will have to see.
Thanks for your interest any way.

Maria
