Following a similar thread on another site (God I am beginning to sound like John J) I was wondering how popular sites like MySpace are among the Irish music scene. Certainly here in Scotland it now seems to be catching on apace with sites popping up all the time. How is it with the Irish music scene?
Also, generally among thesession.org members, who has the time to pull themselves away from the Yellow Board long enough to get anything else done. I set up a MySpace the other day (http://www.myspace.com/alistaircassidy) and am finding it more addictive than I expected. Anyway perhaps this thread can be used as a tool for recovery or at least to manage your addiction. I will take the first step.......
I've seen TheSession mentioned on MySpace but... MySpace mentioned on TheSession?! Ahhhh!!1 Oh yes.. It will be the death of me seeing as how I have a research paper due.. very distracting indeed.
Well, um, now that you mention it...
It is a bit addicting, or a bit to keep up with, whichever...but handy all the same.
myspace is very popular among the contemporary celtic bands out there...my band uses it as a handy tool and the number of other bands that contact us to be a "friend" is really surprising.

Aye Alistair, I set up a space there myself last week & although I haven't come across much ITM, I have found some cracking Old Time Bands & their Music. http://www.myspace.com/dickglasgow
As for the pros & cons, check out this discussion on MySpace over at 'Footstompin', for some thoughts on this:
"myspace.com. Is it good for Traditional/Folk/Acoustic Music?"

So many highschoolers at my school have my spaces (not me!) and a few mention Irish music... really like 2 out of a million though.

On one discussion recently it was described as "just a mirror" but I must admit I have found it quite useful, & interesting.

N.B. I deleted my old page & started a new page at 'MySpace' so that I could post some of my music - it's at: http://www.myspace.com/causewaytraditions
