Congratulations to Jode!

Congratulations to Jode!

The Doon Céilí Band celebrates the release of its first CD on the Shanachie label with a kickoff concert and dance on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 14, 2006, from 3-6 pm at the Lowry Theater in downtown Saint Paul, MN.

The Doon Céilí Band has been entertaining Upper Midwest audiences with energetic Irish traditional music at dances, festivals and concerts since 2003. Now the band has recorded a long-awaited debut CD, “Around the World for Sport,” the culmination of three years’ rehearsal and spirited play. To celebrate the new CD, The Doon Céilí Band will host a concert and céilí dance* on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2006, from 3-6 pm at the Lowry Theater at 16 West Fifth Street (the old Lowry Medical Arts Building) in downtown Saint Paul, one half block east of the Saint Paul Hotel. Admission for the event is $10 at the door; full cash bar.

The Doon Céilí Band first came together in the spring of 2003 with a very specific goal in mind — to play some fine old traditional tunes that had been sorely neglected in recent years. Most of the band’s repertoire comes from the older generation of musicians in Ireland, especially the fiddle and flute players of West Clare. The Doon’s current lineup features Laura MacKenzie, Kate Dowling, and Brian Miller on flute; Django Amerson and Jode Dowling on fiddle; Paddy O’Brien on button accordion, and Sean Egan on piano. After enthusiastic responses from audiences at the Irish Fair of Minnesota and Milwaukee’s Irishfest, The Doon Céilí Band embarked on its first CD, working with Shanachie Records, the prestigious traditional label that has been home to renowned Irish groups like Planxty, DeDanann, Clannad, and Solas.

For ticket information call the Lowry Theater at 651-227-2464. For information on the CD launch, or on ordering “Around the World for Sport,” visit the Doon Céilí Band’s website, http://www.doonceili.com.

I recently met Kate and Jode in Chicago @ CCE convention.
Both fine musicians, I'm sure the CD will be a success!

Re: Congratulations to Jode!

Stop, I'm blushing, and just when I had everyone at work convinced that the mustard board was a technical resource for geeky computer stuff. Thanks everyone! Domo arrigato gozaimash*ta and all that there. Hopefully the CD will help to get us out and about to meet more of you!

Hahaha Jeremy's automatic sensor can even represent vowel devoicing as it occurs in the pronunciation of Japanese. Cool.

Re: Congratulations to Jode!

Instead of Japanese you could just say the translation: "Don't touch my mustache." :-)

Re: Congratulations to Jode!

I've often wondered this: how do the tunes on the Recordings page get linked to the database? For instance, the jig called Paddy Fahy's is linked to a reel of the same name. Can this be fixed?

Congratulations and Well Done!

I am listening to the samples on CD Baby right now and this is some great playing! Can't wait to here the whole thing!

Re: Congratulations to Jode!

No, Jode, that's one of the idiosyncrasies that can't be overcome. But we will expect to see some of the tunes from your CD submitted into the database soon… hint hint. ;-)

Re: Congratulations to Jode!

If there was some agreed numbering system for the Paddy Fahey tunes then it could all be sorted out but I doubt that is going to happen. Maybe after he has died his family will want to do something in his memory - who knows. Not suggesting it is time he passed on :)
Sometimes I have fixed the linkage of tunes by adding or removing a word from the tune title where the original tune title didn't match some of the recordings eg add or remove "the" or different spellings.

Re: Congratulations to Jode!

Donough, so, we would have to get the number on the Fahy Jig, write to the person who submitted the jig in the first place, and have them edit the title, then write to the person who submitted the recording and have them adjust the track titles???

Jack, I guess I'll have to learn my ABCs...

Hey Brian, nice to meet you in Chicago. Hope to see you again. Perhaps another friend of ours will get married in Philly!
