I've heard of Scott Cao's violins (good things) but I've never seen or heard one personally.
Not all of the violins using his label are made in China.
He has a factory and a workshop there, but he also has a workshop of luthiers in California where he also produces violins himself. http://www.scottcaoviolins.com/scottcaoviolin.htm
I have seen them for sale here occasionally, the basic factorymodel has been touted here as a top quality instrument for $$$$$$$$$$, I have seen the stv models here for $5000. The past trade constraints have created a culture of paying way too much for luxury items.
I came over a Scott Chao violin for sale at http://www.elderly.com.
The price was 950$
Comments: .....very fine handmade chinese work........medium brightish tone of very good quality. The violin looked very nice to. After reading the coments here this have to be very cheap.
......Violins are classed as a super luxury item here, so basically any violin other than a sparrow, skylark or ashton combined with the average income is out of reach of most. Factor into that a tradition in belittling anyone who doesnt play guitar or drums.
Have you ever heard of a "Scott Cao" Violin?
Have you ever heard of a "Scott Cao" Violin?
It is a violin made in China. Do you have any good or bad comments about this violin maker (Scott Cao)?
Thanks
