Niall Vallely, McGoldrick, D Moynihan and D Hennessy are certainly nice composers, but I believe only a few of their tunes have been popularised and played reguarly in sessions. There are tons of great Irish tunes, both traditional and modern, but it doen't mean all of them "stick".
I have one hell of a lot to learn about ITM, but I can't say I've noticed any composers credited alongside the many wonderful tunes on your website.
I've no idea who composed any of them, and assumed that most of them were traditional.
Enlighten me please!

Two that haven't appeared on this thread yet are Josephine Marsh and Liz Kane. Beyond Irish, there's Brenda Stubbert (and probably a bunch of younger Cape Bretoners), Hanneke Cassel (at a party last night, Liz Carroll was saying how much she loves Hanneke's tunes), and Lissa Schneckenburger.
Some that haven't had a mention. Michael Gorman, Hammy Hamilton, Paddy Pulse O'Brien (one of my personal faves), Billy McComiskey, Terry "Cuz" Teehan... I'd suggest you check all these out before you go worshipping at the altar of the likes of Niall Vallely, Mick McGoldrick, Diarmaid Moynihan and Donough Hennessy. What about Maurice Lennon and Frankie Gavin? And lots of James Hill's tunes have been popularised over in Ireland...
I would allow Josepine Keegan. But no other women composers in Irish music. All the ideas world has been run by men, apart from Mary Woolstencroft , it seems that serious work, in the area of ideas and music, are the province of men. I take this as a fact. I have learned from another source that men are good at guessing, women are good at retrieving deep knowledge, so, are good at recall. Necessary when raising children, a long term business requiring memory.
So, the system produced Hitler, Schopenhuaer, also Paddy Fahey, O'Riada, Junior Crehan. All guessers apparently. However there are qualitaitve standards which must be applied to everything, One Knows the real thing, Its in our nature.
Everyone can think, sometimes Mother does know best.

Which trad composer's tunes do you like the most?
I got to say that I am pretty torn between Niall Vallely and Michael McGoldrick. Of course Donogh Hennessy and Liz Carroll aren't low on my list.

Those are all good ones Dow. Especially Hamilton, Teehan, and O'Brien.
I just happen to know quite a few tunes by those I mentioned. They wrote some catchy tunes.
