Chicago trip

Chicago trip

I went down to Chicago this week for a conference, with a printout from "the Database" (thanks Brendan!) of a couple of good sessions on Sunday or Monday night that I might attend if there was some time. Neither night worked out, so I resigned myself to the fact that there would be no hearing live tunes on this trip.
After work late Monday night I'm in the Irish Bar that happens to be in the Chicago Hilton and by chance there was some live music - a duo (Jimmy Moore & Pat Broaders) was doing a really good job of giving the landlord what they wanted but without compromising the music - some Planxty songs, some well-played tunes on pipes and whistles, etc. I was enjoying the music and chatted to the bass player (Jimmy Moore) who mentioned he had a gig playing guitar at the same conference I was attending, the next day at the Ireland pavillion, with none other than John Williams and Kathleen Keane.
Needless to say the next day I was front and centre listening to a great little recital by these players. And to top it off Jimmy was even kind enough to let me borrow his guitar for a set of tunes with these great players - Thanks to Jimmy, Kathleen and John!
So I got my fix of live tunes after all, and then some...

Re: Chicago trip

Could be, could be...
It could also be:
(b) the natural high from an unexpected positive musical experience in Chicago, or
(c) a journey to Chicago, or
(d) all of the above

Re: Chicago trip

By the way Backer, I'm not sure which Jimmy Moore he is - I would have said the Chicago one. He was born in Ireland, but I'm not sure where.

Re: Chicago trip

Michael,
This topic doesn't say anything about a bodhran. Why are you bothering to post on it?

Re: Chicago trip

Chicago is an AMAZING town. I really like it other than the weather. You can do that- sit in a session and just listen.
