Recieved my copy of Tripswitch, John McSherry and Donal O'Connor's new CD yesterday. I have to say, it's the best album I've heard in a long time, probably since Lunasa's first album. The mix of tunes, the arrangements, the sound production the artwork and the sleeve notes are all top class. I havn't heard fiddle and pipes play so closely together since Keenan &Glackin, but it's not only fiddle/pipes there's alot of Low and high whistle also. I can't really describe how good it is - Just go and get it.
I bought it on www.atfirstlight.net and it was delivered within 2 days.
Anyone else heard it??
Just had a look at their website there too. Very nice. Good links on it. I linked to Pardaig Rynns website from it and saw that both Donal and John gust on his album too.
It would be great if they all put a band together or something and I would only need to buy one cd.....ha
Don't think so. I heard he's living in Belfast. Got a copy over their website as well and haven't stop listening these last two days. Backing is brill - several guitarists on the album but Paul McSherry plays on the majority of the tracks just like the McGoldrick/McSherry album. Check out the guitar on the tune tripswitch which the lads wrote themselves.
This is obviously continuing in the electric vein of fused & wired. Even 'First Light' could be construed as electrical, but that was more a follow on from Morning Rory!
Electrical vein? You can't be serious. There's no similarity - it's an accoustic album, no drums, bass, sequencers etc.,. Fused and wired have more commercial dance influences. Even at that I have to say I like them all.
I am NOT serious. I thought that would be obvious but apparently not. This was only a pathetically weak humorous comment on the commonality in the naming of these albums and had nothing to do with the content.
Sorry for the confusion.

Heard from a mate of mine that its amazing. He heard it before it was mastered or mixed. It would have to be great with those lads involved.

Must say eurobanjo, I love the idea of a Piper "Gusting" on an album!

Suppose that would describe nicely those wee gasps of air you hear from the Bellows?

Well, it might appeal to some people! It just sounded boring to me. Definitely not my cup of tea
