This is a new post for any of you who missed the first time around. I sometimes hear negative things about Bodhrans and my guess is the much of the lousy bodhrán playing is because of lack of education. This is an opportunity to help educate bodhrán players. It is my understanding the Mark Stone is a very good teacher. So if you know a “lousy” bodhrán player or a good Bodhran Player who wants to improve his or her playing and meet other players in the Southern California area please see that they hear about this workshop I hope you will encourage BETER BODHRAN PLAYING THROUGH EDUCATION. Or as our president might say “NO BODHRAN PLAYER LEFT BEHIND” Details Below:
Mark Stone (www.markstonemusic.com) is conducting a three-hour workshop in Costa Mesa, CA on 8 April at Noon. Reservations are a must as space is limited. For information and reservations contact John Prange at 949-476-2030 or drprange@cox.net.
This is an excellent opportunity to not only learn from a great teacher but meet and connect with other bodhrán players in the Southern California area. You will also have the opportunity to play a number of excellent drums by makers like Metloef (Rob Forkner), Seamus O’Kane, Albert Alfonse, Darius Bartlett, Kevin O’Connell, Steve Foreman and the like.
I am hoping that this can become an annual event or at least more events like this can be organized here in Southern California. That we can bring in great bodhrán teachers and perhaps other great musicians.
So if you have any interest in bodhrán and live or are visiting here in Southern California please join Mark for a great afternoon. BTW there is no profit motive involved.
Re: April 8th Bodhran Workshop In Southern California
Sounds like it will be a great workshop, not to be missed!
Mark is a fine player, and I hear an excellent teacher.
Also a good opportunity to try out some quality drums.
Re: April 8th Bodhran Workshop In Southern California
Mark, I've seen folks condition their bodhran skins with water and even Guinness, but would it be better to use steak sauce or Worcestershire when using a steak knife? (Myself, I prefer to condition the bodhran *player* with the Guinness ...)

Geoff,
Nothing that fancy. Just your standard Kerry penknife with a touch of topend steakknife for good measure.

At the top, you cannot improve, the only way is down. Besides, where is Southern California?

Hey Blisster... when are you going to offer a bodhran workshop on improving self-esteem?

Re: April 8th Bodhran Workshop In Southern California
Actually, I will be in San Diego for business during that period--I will be listening for the distant rumble of drums!

And you know what they say; "when the drums stop, bad news - bass solo !"
