Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

I have put a couple of tunes up in a tutorial format.

The URL is http://www.flutesite.com/tune_tutor.htm.

So far I have two tunes in place, the Miller's Maggot, and the Cow that Ate the Blanket.

I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions anyone has to offer.

Thanks.

Very impressive! How big will it get?

Re: Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

My only main thought is to find some way to link the tunes so you don't have to scroll though tune after tune (when it gets larger) in order to find one you might like. Or the other solution would be to make sure you put news ones in alphabetically so people can find them easily.

Forgot to add -- other than that, the site looks great and it's a great idea. I need to listen through stuff when I get home.

Re: Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

Excellent . My only problem is when I click on the tunes to play they open my windows media thing and I get the dancing colours, so the dots disappear and I have to minimize the screen really quickly in order to follow the music. Any ideas how I stop this happening? I'm sure its simple really I'm just too simple to know it.

Re: Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

I have set the tune links to open in a different window. This should stop the tune download from blanking or covering the page with the music; however, you will probably have to click on that page again to bring it back to the front while the tune loads and plays.

I appreciate the comments and the feedback, everybody. Keep 'em coming!

Re: Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

Great work James. As someone who has yet to attend a session, hearing your recordings is a great help. Often when you listen to a recording of a band, it's hard to pick out what the whistle is doing with cuts and rolls and so forth.

Re: Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

James I think this is a great idea! but suggest to re-record with the tempo way down and make the rhythm much stronger. Someone unfamiliar with these tunes can develop bad habits at that speed. You want them to be able to play evenly and rhythmically, above anything else. However I only had a chance to listen to the Cow .. Blanket. Good luck with this!

Re: Beginnings of a new online tune tutorial

James,
I think it might be easier to learn the ornamentation if you add a second 'dots' which includes exactly those gracenots you play in the audiofile.
Great Side!
