I know I've found it before but I didn't have any luck today. If I'm not completely wrong Benny Andersson (yep, the ABBA-guy) has recorded this with Orsa Spelmän. I've got a CD with Åsa Jinder doing a nice version of it.
There's a long story to accompany this tune about the a stranger borrowing a fiddle at a big party and playing a polska no-one had heard before. The dancers got enchanted and followed him towards the top of a hill (hårgaberget). When one of the dancers noticed that the fiddler had hooves, he put his knife in the wall above the door and the power of the steel cut him loose from the spell. He held his girlfriend's arm but the door shut and they got separated. The devil kept playing, sitting in a tree on top of the hill and everyone had to dance to the music. When the churchbells rang for the mass on Sunday morning they were still dancing, only the skulls left of their bodies...

Re: Swedish Tune ID
I think (definitely not sure) that it might be this one, Hårgalåten.

just the beginning of the tune, unfortunately...

sorry that it's only a boring midi track.

So be careful with this tune...

Re: Swedish Tune ID
And if it is that tune it's not a waltz, it's a hambo. Want to learn how to dance hambo?
