straying pipers

straying pipers

Hi

I've just acquired the sheet music for 'Piper thru the meadow straying' as a song. Does anyone know of any recordings of this as I would prefer to listen to an interpretation before I try and work it out myself.

Thanks
J

Re: straying pipers

Finbar Furey does a great version and I learnt it on fiddle by playing it over and over. I've got it on a compilation but it's probably the same as this recording:

Re: straying pipers

I learned the tune from an album by a 70's band,Iona (not the Celtic God squad band ).They played it after the song Fingal's Dream.

Horslips for me as well. I think the Chieftains have a snippet on the Bells of Dublin Album ( if I remember correctly)

Re: straying pipers

RichardB - I was going to mention the Finbar Furey recording, but I notice that JFother is looking for it as a *song* rather than an instrumental.

J - The best I can do is advise you to wait until Christmas and listen to 'Deck the Halls'. It's more or less the same tune - maybe not quite what you're after, though.

Yes, there is a snippet on the Bells of Dublin CD by the Chieftains.

Peter and Noel Carberry, Numerous ID Feis musicians and amongst it I found this!

Re: straying pipers

While following links in another discussion I ran across a version in MP3 format by the Liverpool Ceili Band.
