Had a bit of a cold last week and ended up losing my voice. No big deal, it's not even sore. So I was out for a diddle and didn't speak a word all night, just played tunes.
It struck me how that session was the antithesis of thesession.org, which is all gab.
Wow Shrog, you are mighty clever, I can only manage to read and play at the same time - have to put down the fiddle for the small few seconds to post. That's prob why I don't very often, playing time already being severely limited by mundane things like earning a living and helpin the garden grow.
I get told off for watching tv, reading the paper and playing concertina, all at the same time.
Amazingly enough, if I read the paper and watch tv at the same time, she never says a word.
We're gabbing to make up for the time lost in sessions.
On the other hand, my Sacred Harp group describes itself as "coffee/tea, biscuits, gossip, and singing".
How did you shout out the key changes, or don't you bother ? Did somebody else have to buy a drink for you ?
Not so impossible pobe, just attach the bow to your right big toe, cross your right leg across your left knee and wriggle your foot from the ankle, thus leaving the bow hand free to type at the same time. Could be a good party trick.
Actually, being a whistle player, I just type with the end of the whistle - no severed finger required. But I'm typing this with TWO whistles - one in each nostril. I just tape up 3 select holes on each whistle so I can play each with one hand only. The drool coming out the end of the whistle is a little thicker than usual, but then I am playing slowly.

Re: lost my voice
That's only because you can't hear the rest of us play our instruments while reading this stuff. In fact, I'm playing as I'm typing this.

Re: lost my voice
You should learn to play the fiddle with your feet.
Or perhaps to type with your feet. Somehow that seems easier...

Re: lost my voice
Well, Sacred Harp is all Godsongs, and half the group are unbelievers anyway, only come along for the endorphins of bellowing your heads off.
PS What is Luna on, someone tell me ? ( Where can I get some ? ) I'll have what she's having ( That's a homage ).

Re: lost my voice
Mucous in the keyboard - good title for a whistle tune (composed by Shrog while nose piping and typing similtaneously on the yellowboard).
