This may sound like a daft question but do you mean a *song* or a tune to which words have been set. Or a song which has also become a tune?
There are many songs where the melody is also a traditional tune and I think this is what you mean. If you listen out for some of Andy M Stewart's compositions, you'll find a few crackers.
hm. I'm not sure what I mean either now. ha! that's what I get.
something like Shule a ruin, or skye boat song....
ok maybe song then.
ooo danny boy... how 'bout not lol.
Although I read some alternate lyrics the other day, "My Gentle Harp", and those were almost nice enough to make me want to play that tune. Almost. ^_^
The Little Beggarman/Red Haired Boy
Galway Bay (as sung by Dolores Keane), a great waltz
there are even some words to Merrily Kissed the Quaker (somewhere on this site)
"The Loyal Orange Heroes of Comber" features in the play wot I wrote, world premiere in November in Antrim Town. That was the semi-good news. The bad news is that I sing it.
On a more serious note "The Star of the County Down" is surely an "Orange" marching song, well the way we do it, and runs nicely into Morrison's jig.
Favorite Tune with Lyrics?
Favorite Tune with Lyrics?
Just curious because I'm trying to find some for my, and I call us this loosely, band to play, but what is your favorite tune(s) that has lyrics?
(we have a really dynamite soprano)
Thanks!
