This past Thursday night, Patrick Collins, whistle player, fiddler, and all around great guy passed away at his home in Los Angeles of natural causes. He was 46.
Pat was one of the mainstays in the Monday night Celtic Arts Center sessions, and led the slow sessions for learners on Sundays. He also participated in other sessions around the area.
Along with that, he was a member of the band "Craicmore" that was fairly well known at local and southwest fairs, festivals, and club bookings.
Pat was a generous guy, both with his time and money. He supported learners and brought them into the Monday night session on a regular basis. I know that some folks pass on the Monday night session at the Celtic Arts Center because they feel some of the musicians are a bit sub-par, but thanks to Pat, the session has grown because of that very thing, and also because of Pat, those new players were growing in skills by leaps and bounds, and I would suggest to anyone who has dismissed the Celtic Arts Center session to come around some time and join in.
God Bless you, Pat. We'll play together again one day. I loved you my brother.
Thanks to the tunes, we are all part of the same circle, no matter how far apart we live or what abilities we bring to the music. Sounds like young Patrick was a true champion of the music, a source of deep and widespread encouragement. His loss is a reminder that time is too short for all of us. Use that time wisely--heed those opportunities to help others join in.
We'll play a set for Mr. Collins at our next session. Our sympathies to his family and friends.
