I listen to Robbie Hannan's "Culan" on the BBC each week, along with all the other great folk shows.
Robbie usually has great music, but because his show's mostly in Gaelic, which I don't speak, I don't understand about 99% of what he says! Sometimes he give the tune names in English....
Every week he ends the show with the same phrase. It sounds like "Slaan agus <something>"
I know that the "Slaan" is probably short for "Slainte" (Good health/Cheers!) and that "agus" means "and."
Can any of the Gaelic speakers here tell me what he's saying and what it means? Thanks!
How do you listen to Culan then? Whenever I try with the BBC radio player I always get something else, usually involving some sort of loud music played by what I believe is known to young people as a "pop group". Today, for a change I just get 9 minutes and 59 seconds of news and no music at all.
Same here. I used to adore Culan but I was sure it's been taken off the schedule and they just forgot to reprogramme the internet thingie. Say, Jerry, in that case do you think we should start sending e-mails to BBC just highlight the problem? Seems like a technical thing to me, someone have overlooked it. I miss it a lot.
However, it seems like the show actually starts about 10 minutes in ... after a lot of football scores and reporting. For a little while, there must have been some other show on in that time spot, but I keep checking!
BTW, in the same vein, what does Kieran Hanrahan say right at the beginning of RTE's "Céilí House"? It's a quick phrase in Gaelic that ends with "Céilí".
Well, it's working today, although it sounds like they're playing underwater. There must be BBC engineers listening in on our yellow board or perhaps the CIA phone tap people passed my complaint along.
Last thing said on BBC's Culan?

I'm sure it's "Slan gu...." meaning "Good-bye to...."

It's probably Slán agus beannacht leat, which means goodbye and blessings be with you. It's a common blessing upon parting.

I did write to them some time ago, but only got an automated reply. It's probably tiem to try again though. It can't hurt.
I've just realized that rzaikoski probably listens to Culan using a "wireless". I'd forgotten about those things.

Thanks, blas! "Slán agus beannacht"

I listen with the standard BBC Radio Player (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/mainframe.shtml?http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/index.shtml -- Pick Folk & Country and click the Culan link).

Thanks in advance!
