I'm at work of course....

I'm at work of course....

and was talking to a customer, I heard an extended bit of concertina playing "Tripping Up the Stairs" over the phone. As we were in the process of a very slow reboot I asked her about it and she said it was a cartoon.

.....hmmmnm ........

Just thought I'd share that with you. Discuss, Ignore, or Hijack, as you will.

Re: I'm at work of course....

That's nothing!
Whilst in a sporting club on my holidays last week, I had to sit near the poker machine area.
I was most disturbed to hear the "Lucky Leprechaun" machine playing reels and gigs on the flute, fiddle and pipes when a feature was in action.
These were tracks by professional musicians - not electronic midi files.
I'm sure I have the offensive tracks somewhere in my collection and when I find out who the bastards who sold out are I'll boycott them - due to the misery that these machines inflect upon the afflicted.
Nuff said I suppose.

A latter-day, if rather sillier and more anarchistic and chaotic, successor to "Captain Pugwash"? (Which, after all, had "Trumpet Hornpipe" as its theme song)

Of course, as many people know, it rates a page on the "Urban Legends" Web site--

Re: I'm at work of course....

Wiggle, those folks trapped in the "Lucky Leprechaun" machine didn't sell out, they were probably licensed to a music production company, like this one (or the game machine makers could have just ripped them off).

Click on National/Ethnic and eventually you'll hear Morrison's Jig and eventually other Irish and Scottish tunes. This company 's library includes both well-known Irish and Scottish (and other) musicians and complete unknowns. The musicians might even see a miniscule amount of money out of it, but they don't control where the music is played. They may not have had any say in being licensed, either.

Nick Carr is the guy responsible for the inclusion of the trad tunes in early Spongebob episodes:

Lots of technical detail, but interesting article.

There was a thread in the past more or less discussing trad tunes in Spongebob:

Can you tell I'm bored at work today?

Re: I'm at work of course....

Great article on Nick Carr, Tracie, thanks. I was wondering who was responsible for the music selections and my online search was getting nowhere. Wikipedia lists a couple different music credits but the Carr piece was the most in-depth article I've seen. I wish there was some way of finding out who actually played the concertina. If it was needle-drop (a wonderfully anachronistic term!) then the player might not even know her/himself.
