Re: London, March 10-20

All our events here in London are always cool. Anything you can find will be amazing, even to some of the people taking part.

Re: London, March 10-20

Big St Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday 12th, starting at Hyde Park Corner - events in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and Covent Garden.

Here's a link:

I imagine there will still be a session in The Portehouse near Covent Garden as usual on Sundays, look in around 5pm.

Re: London, March 10-20

Pat, drop me a line.

Session on Friday in Cricklewood with Mick O'Connor, Saturday there's Tír Na n'Óg in Wandsworth, Sunday take your pick - there's about 5 or 6 to choose from!

The Porterhouse is not happening, though, due to massive influx expected for the early St Pat's Day celebrations on Sunday 12th.

There'll be a free concert in Trafalgar Square with people like Altán and the Hothouse Flowers, as well as a céilí in Leicester Square!

Re: London, March 10-20

There is no Porterhouse session on 12th March, pub will be too crazy with the parade on. It will be on as usual on the 19th, 3:30 - 6:30pm.

Four Men and a Dog are playing in Hammersmith Irish Centre on 11th March.....

12th Should be good. Altan are playing in Trafalger Sq. (http://www.london.gov.uk/stpatricksday/festival/index.jsp).

Fastest gun in the West!
Are you going to catch some of the concert? I think I will, and then possibly try the ceili if there's a good turn-out. Last time I went to a concert in Trafalgar Square I had to stand on the fountain, just to hear the band (Loyko) and ended up getting drenched. I think I'll try a lion this time or that awful new statue on the previously empty plinth.

Re: London, March 10-20

I miss all that London stuff now I'm back here in Dub. I used to really enjoy the session scene in North London. It was always hectic on the run up to Paddys day.
I used to play the Powers session on Sundays in Kilburn with Brian Kelly, Mick Bailey, Mick O'Connor on the occassions he was about for it. I recall one hectic Paddys day playing the Porterhouse, then onto Clancys (off the Holloway road) & then onto the Blackhorse further up the Holloway road... Great times for the most part.
Still at least I dont have to take time off work to celebrate our national day...
Actually I remember the group beyond the pale where a sunday night resident in Clancys are they still doing the rounds does anyone know?

Re: London, March 10-20

So, is there any evening session in the centre on 12th? I'll stay in Camden that night, but is there a session at Tommy Flynn's as usual?

# Posted on March 8th 2006 by slainte

Re: London, March 10-20

There's a sesh in Tommy's, certainly. It finishes up at around 9. Most people head to Waxy O'Connor's off Leicester Square, Mother Redcap in Archway or straight home to beddy-byes.

Mind you there isn't a great deal of room to play in either Waxy's or Mother Redcap. Waxy's kicks off at 7 and Ma Redcap at 8. Either way, you're guaranteed a decent night's music.

Re: London, March 10-20

By the way, Power's in Kilburn is still going strong. 4 o'clock kick-off.

Re: London, March 10-20

Cheers, Conan. Is it a session in Waxy's?

Re: London, March 10-20

I used to go to the Mother Redcap years ago. Who's running it now.

Re: London, March 10-20

Both Waxy's and Ma Redcap are mic-ed up but they are sessions. Not for the faint of heart!

Paul, it's myself, Sheena Vallely and Ben Gunnery, plus a guitarist - Kevin Boyle when we can get him! We've also had some other top guitarists, like Paddy P.

As Tad says, great sessions in the Richmond / Isleworth area at the moment.

See you later Tad!

Waxy's is also cancelled on the 12th March but back on on the 19th.

Cheers,

Beyond the pale have gone their seperate ways.

Re: London, March 10-20

Conán is Powers still as jammers as it use to be? You'd get there for 3.30 and the place would be empty and hour later & you couldnt move. Is the crowd still as varied as ever.....

I'm going back a good 7 years now but I dont s'pose andyone recalls or knows the whereabouts of a flute/whislte player that was a regular the north london session scene, Tom Healy from Cork?? We lost touch after I left London. Last I heard he was heading back home to Cork, he used to live in Archway, was a reg at Powers, Blackhorse, Clancys, and what was the name of that one in Hampstead more of a blue grass session really, ah the name alludes me at the moment....

Shame about Beyond the Pale,
