Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Hello there I am desparately seeking a copy of Bernard Flaherty's "A Trip to Sligo". Have had (supposedly) a copy on order from Amazon since beginning of December but they just keep putting back the delivery dates. Tried to get a copy at "The Music Room" in Cleckhuddersfax but to no avail; my fiddle teacher is keen for me to learn some tunes from the above so would like to get my paws on a copy ASAp. any one out there, can u help??is it possible to get copy in USA?? My bro-in-law lives in Philly, could he get a copy from somewhere for me??

Try Barnes & Noble. If they don't have it in stock I'm sure they would order it for you.

Great book btw.

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Hi MP,

Other good web sources for books are ABE, and ALIBRIS.

Have a look at this one:

http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&y=0&tn=trip+to+sligo&x=0&sortby=2

and

http://www.alibris.com/search/search.cfm

A Miles Krassen effort of the same title...might be of some use. The Flaherty seems to be out of print - seems like you could still find a copy somewhere though...

Here's what the cover looks like anyway:

Good luck with the search!

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Hi, MB,

I enquired about this book's availability when I visited the Coleman Centre in Gurteen last October. The unfortunate answer is that it's simply out of print and you'd have to track down a library copy or visit ITMA in Dublin to see one.

However, I was also told that Bernie O'Flaherty's mother, who runs the music shop on Main Street in Boyle, has a few copies left. So, when I was in the town, I tried to check it out, but the shop was shut for half-day closing. I'm sure that it does not have a website.

All the best,

Geoff

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

I work in a university library, and we use www.addall.com to find anything that needs to be ordered by the department heads, professors or adjuncts, etc. It is a website that searches the online inventories of thousands of online booksellers the world over. If there is one available online, then you're sure to find a copy there.

If that doesn't work then maybe you can dust off your old library card and have it sent ILL (interlibrary loan), from another library somewhere in the country. I don't know where you are located, but here In the USA, most ILL's are done on the North American continent free of charge, but there may be a small fee to pay for some items. I'm not sure how or if that would work in Europe or elsewhere, but look into it, it's certainly worth a shot..

www.addall.com has helped me find some very elusive titles in the past.

Anyhow, best of luck and let us know how it goes!

Cheers,
Chris

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Barnes & Noble are an American bookseller based in NYC, and may be able to get you a copy, however, I worked for them last year and they only use Alibris to order books which are out of print, then of course you pay a mark up fee.

The link I posted above has several copies available, it would appear some from Alibris, and you can shop them direct without having to pay a middle man like bn.com

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Madame Bonaparte, if all else fails I could arrange a photocopied version of the original book or alternatively, make enquiries about the availibity of a copy from friends back in Ireland, all of which would take time.

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

Dear Strathfoyle

How very kind of you! But I will wait a while, first, to see if Amazon (or, Never'ad one) actually do come up with the goods; their latest "delivery" date is now supposed to be up to 10th March , so we will see what happens this next week... I am also likely to be flying to Philly in April, so could possibly get a copy shipped to my bro-in-laws address there, so that I could collect it from him; that would of course mean sourcing a copy(probably second hand) from the US. In the meantime, I would be very grateful if you would make some enquiries from your friends in Ireland, to see if anything turns up.....thanks, you're a star!!

Re: Desparately Seeking...Trip to Sligo

This tune "Trip To Sligo" is in the "Fiddlers Fake Book" on page 279. Some slight differences occur in this version. The Fake Book shows the "Chieftains" as having played it.
