This year is the 20th anniversary of Raymond's death. Very interested in hearing recordings that people have made over the years especially ones from the White Hart in Fulham Broadway. Have very few recordings myself and would appreciate any copies of tapes or memories people would have of him
I'm sure I still have a videotape of Raymond Roland appearing on a programme about accordions , probably about the early 1980s. There was a short session clip, and he also did a short piece "to camera" about his playing . I've been trying to copy tapes to DVD, but haven't been successful so far. I could have a go again, if you are interested in this. The entire clip would probably be less than 2 minutes.
I have no tapes, but I have memories of a brilliant musician who typified the quality of Irish music in London at that time. The White Hart was always my first port of call on visits to London, and I know that was true for many others too.
Thanks but I have that video tape. The programme was called "Arena"
Wondering if there is any recordings from Radio Eireann. I've heard some of his music played but wouldn't know where to get a copies of it. Any Ideas?
Thanks for replying by the way. It is always a pleasure to hear people talking so fondly about him even after all these years
I'm sure you will already have the 'Le Cheile' LPs and the 'Music from Clare & Galway' with Bobby Casey etc, and probably also the tape 'Saturday Night at the Ceili' (The Raymond Roland Quintet').
To my eternal regret, I don't have any live tapes, though.
I very fondly remember Raymond with Liam Farrell and Paddy Hayes coming to Wexford for years and calling to my mothers house to play music. We would all go to the sessions in various parts of the county for the next week or so.I was also with Paddy Hayes when he won his first All Ireland playing Raymonds concertina. I hope he is having plenty of sessions with his friends in Heaven. I will look up any photos I have and forward them to you.
