It's actually an Italian tune called Oggi Nevica, played as a polka. Jos Bouchard is credited with introducing it into the Quebecois tradition, where Liz Carroll picked it up from Denis Pepin. Sharon Shannon got it from Liz. Jesse Smith also learned it (from Liz maybe?) and passed it on to Natalie MacMaster.
