Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Hello all,

I have a Yamaha FG 700MS guitar which is basically new. Had been purchased as a gift a couple of weeks back. Played for approx 20 minutes all in, but would much rather a bodhran. If anyone would be interested in trading a bodhran for this solid top guitar please contact me.
I'm based in Belfast.

I know I'mm gonna get int trouble with Jeremy for this, but heck, some times you just have to take a bit of flack in the interests of sanity ...

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

would n't it be better to sell yr guitar and then buy a bodhrán with the proceeds? - that way you should end up with a bit of spare cash.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

That's worth about £150 new?

I think you'd be better off telling the person who gave it to you that you would rather have a bodhran, and get the receipt - the shop should take it back for full price if you haven't damaged it.

You can spend anything from £30 to several hundred for a Bodhran, and most tippers are around £15 each. Do you have a particular make/model of Bodhran in mind?

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

I thought this might have been a wind up at first but it seems to be serious!!!!

No wonder Michael is so upset.

Deccy, your bio says you play Uillean pipes. Why, why, would you wish a bodhran?
Twenty minutes playing the guitar in all? What nonense? Most people can't even learn to tune it in that time.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

I second those first two replies - get the money and then go looking - you're not likely to get a good deal by a direct swop - money is only a formalised sort of barter anyway.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Thanks for the advice, John, £150 was paid for the guitar and I would have no bother swapping for a bodhran of simular price range. I was told a tunable Maguire or simular quality would be a fair swap. I have no interest in playing guitar and if anyone wants to pay £120 I'd take that and buy a bodhran.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

You should at least hold out for a bodhran and a bottle of good whiskey.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Ummm...folks, read Dec's profile. He's 12.

Dec - do think twice about this, you can play almost anything at all on a guitar and you're at a perfect age to start playing it. Why not give it a try for a few months? You might really, really like it.

Good luck to you whatever you decide.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Trade for a banjo, can work as a bodhran as well. Very versatile.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Deccy, you play Uilleann Pipes according to your bio. Why not sell it to finance Drones and Regs? That is of course if you dont' have them.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

Hi Unseen122, would love a flat set of pipes much nicer sound.

Re: Bodhran for Guitar Trade

I meant for a D set if you are on a Practice set, that way if you don't know a tune you could just drone on and throw some Regulator chords in. Or you could get a Lower Pitched Chanter to hook up to your set, I have seen Cilian Vallely do it.
