The local Irish pub that just opened here in my home town contacted me just this week to see if I knew anyone to play for St. Patrick's day. I understand that they are new, but I explained to them the likelyhood of finding anyone at this late stage was slim to none. However, I can't help but try. Are there any bands or individuals available and willing to play on St. Patrick's day in North eastern PA in the Poconos? I would play if I knew I would have a few others to join me...but I'd rather find an already established band...I hate throwing things together last minute...you can always tell.
Musicians can always tell but drunk punters rarely can tell the difference. That's just to boost your morale in case you have to throw something together. Good luck!
I don't have any plans as of yet. I might be willing to, of course I am not in a band, maybe we could throw something together if nothing else works out.
Re; drunk punters can rarely tell...may I refer you to the earlier anecdote about auditioning for Williamsburg....
An important note, IMNSHO, is always to have an authentic irish frontperson for St Pat's. The rest of you can shut up/keep shtum/above all NOT sing, but the frontperson must be authentic, else you may go down like the proverbial lead parachute. Don't know why, can play Burns Nights without harm, even with my accent, but St Pats is different.
Good luck. Could be the start of a wondeful career/band/session.
I can say that I am authentic. I play sessiuns at this bar, actually I started running them there and I play at feisanna quite a bit. Ive been in bands in the past and I just didn't like it very much. Too many differeing opinions and on St. Patrick's day....all we heard were requests for Danny boy and I'll tell me ma...I'm a traditional player...maybe a few old time waltzes, not a singer and I'm dreading playing anywhere on St. PAtrick's day without a set group of like minded indiviuals OR someone who can cover those angles. Unseen122, If you are willing to commit to coming, I'll play along. What do you play? IS it feasible for you to get to the Poconos?
Seems like it should not be too hard for me to get there if it is only up 206, it should not be more than an hour away. Of course I will have to see, I am not promising anything right this second. I agree with you on what to play. I play Flute and the occasional Whistle, I have a Tenor Banjo but I dont know that many tunes as I spend too much time playing Flute. Looks like you play Piano Box, dosen't sound like too bad of a combo. You know any backers that would be willing to do this with us? Read if you want to know about me. The tunes in my "tunebook" are ones I have sat down and really learned, of course there are tons of others that I don't know the name of or don't know that well. I might be at the session on the 19th, if we are going to do this I will definanalty be there.

Wow Pete, that's truly amazing! It's not often I find someone here who actually agrees with me!
As there are so many smart folk on this site I guess this must be a case of - fools seldom differ!

Are you still looking? What time how many sets and how much? And where in NEPA are you located?
