ZoukFest 2005 World Music Camp, held November 6-12, 2005 at the historic Ghost Ranch Conference Center near Abiquiu, New Mexico, announces the first ever Octave Mandolin built by Pete Langdell of Rigel Mandolins up for raffle as part of this year's activities. This instrument is the prototype for a new production model Rigel Octave Mandolin.
Raffle tickets are $25.00 per ticket. Purchase is open to the general public and is not limited to ZoukFest attendees. Instructions on entering the raffle are available online at the ZoukFest web site.
Specifications: The Octave Mandolin prototype will have a Carved Red Spruce top, carved back and sides of Vermont Rock Maple, Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard, and a 22 1/2 " scale.
About the design from Rigel's Peter Mix:
"We're going to use a small-bodied, exquisitely-designed archtop guitar as the template for the instrument. This may seem like a stretch, but is our observation that the (Gibson style) K5 makes the best mandocello configuration and we believe this will also prove to be the case for an octave mandolin."
Raffle Rules: Date of the raffle drawing will be announced once 600 tickets are sold. Winning ticket holder need not attend drawing to win. Winner will be notified by email and phone within 1 hour of the drawing. Winner will have 7 days to acknowledge results of drawing before forfeiting to 1st runner up. 1st runner up will be notified by email and phone within 1 hours of winner’s forfeiture and will have 7 days to acknowledge before forfeiting to 2nd runner up. 2nd runner up will have 7 days to acknowledge before forfeiting. If winner, 1st runner up and 2nd runner up fail to accept results, raffle will be redrawn.
ZoukFest is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit arts and education organization.

Excellent, Chris. I got a couple raffle tix at Zoukfest, but now that they've shown the video of it actually being played, I'm thinking of pitching in for a couple more tickets. What a nice instrument!
Zoukfest was phenomenal this year, but a bit short on attendance because it was in November, so this raffle really helps keep them going in the future.
Oooo, pretty. Sure, I'll buy a ticket, but if I win, somebody else will have to play the thing. If John Carty comes back to Zoukfest next year, I'll prolly go, I found out he was there too late last time.

Hey Z,
Maybe St. Louis is too far for you, but I'd hope not.
I think John will be teaching at the Tionol there in April. It's a wonderful event, great classes and sessions.

Ooo - well, I may be back in England in April, crossing my fingers, but if I'm not -- I am SO there!

Zina, I wouldn't consider wishing away your British trip, but it would be great to meet you in St. Lou!
Maybe one of us will be toting the Rigel Raffle Zouk to the Tionol, too! <GG>
