Name that tune please.

Name that tune please.

Here's a tune (reel) I've played for ages, but never knew the name. I've never seen it written down anywhere and there aren't many Irish players here to ask since I emigrated to Western Canada. I am a Scot who learnt the tune from an Irishman in England. It's a popular session tune.

I've written it out in ABC format, I don't have vertical slashes on my keyboard so I used oblique slashes (the ABC thing is new to me).

I'd appreciate a name and any comments, thanks,

Kenn

Re: Name that tune please.

Kenn, this is Trip to Durrow, or part of it at least. You'll find it listed in the tune archives on this site.

Re: Name that tune please.

Thanks Will for leting me know.
I've always played the "C part" as a variation of the A part but only when the tune is repeated ie AABB:CABB.
Anyway, I posted that & other drivvel on the Trip to Durrow comments page.
Thanks again,

Kenn

Re: Name that tune please.

Hey kenn, I had the same problem as you, had the ABC but no title. Someone directed me to a nifty search feature where you can put in the ABC for a tune and it will give you the sheet music. Assuming, of course, that the tune is in the database and also assuming that your ABC happens to be the same as the ABC of the tune in the database. If that don't work, you can try John Walshaw's (is that his name??) ABC tune finder, works the same. Heck, why am I telling you this? You already have the name... oh well

Re: Name that tune please.

Isn't that a coincidence, at our session (with dots) in Coventry UK last night one of the players brought the tune Trip to Durrow.
