there is a tune played by eileen ivers on the fiddle, on tommy flemings new album . i want to find the score of it but cant find it anywhere. it begins slow and ends up very fast. it is called ships are sailing and when i look for this tune on the net a different one comes up.
was it Eileen Ivers who played Ships are Sailing tune in a jaw-dropper of a duet with Seamus Egan? And if so, does anyone know the name of the album that's off?
I've an album of particularly good baroque-trad fusion called Stravaganza, in which Ships Are Sailing is given a very interesting and quite exciting treatment, including being played at pace as a canon starting again halfway through the first phrase (bar 3).
btw, this won't be everyone's cup of tea. Some baroque enthusiasts I've played it to have found it twee, but most folks with their feet in both baroque and trad worlds have found it to their liking.
Matt, I think that's on an Augusta compliation album I received for Christmas, of performances from teachers and performers at the Augusta festival. I'll double check later for ya.
Nope, I was wrong -- on the Augusta Heritage Center Irish Week compilation CD, Eileen Ivers, Seamus Egan, Zan McLeod, and Albert Alfonso play Toss the Feathers/Julia Delaney/Emily's/The Fermoy Lasses/Jennie's Chickens/The Ivy Leaf (phew -- the track clocks in at 10:44).
You've never heard of the August Heritage Center Irish Week? Really?

Re: find me this tune
Sounds to me like Eileen is dredging up her old set from Wild Blue. Starts with the Green Hills of Tyrol (Tripping Down the Stairs) first as a jig (http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/3590), then as a reel (http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/760), and then into Ships Are Sailing.
Mind you, she takes the usual Ivers liberties with all three tunes.

Here's a link to the album if anyone's interested, it's got some audio clips - though Ships Are Sailing doesn't make the Amazon cut.

Thanks Zina... Augusta you say? What's an Augusta when it's at home, then?

West Virgina is local to West Virginians, I suppose.

Re: find me this tune
This is the album I think. And it wasn't Ships Are Sailing, it was Farewell to Ireland. Bad, bad me.
