John Killourhy (RIP), Gerdy Commane (RIP)

John Killourhy (RIP), Gerdy Commane (RIP)

Sad news.
From Peter Laban:
"Gerdy, well into his eighties, and John, in his nineties were two of the old troopers of West Clare music, it's very sad
to see them gone."

I'm sure all of us who were familiar with the music of these men will agree with Peter.

Two great musicians who will be sadly missed. I only knew Gerdie at first hand as he was a regular session player at events in Ennis, particularly the Fleadh Nua. He was the only player I ever heard who could make the Irish Washerwoman sound good!!

Re: John Killourhy (RIP), Gerdy Commane (RIP)

While talking to John O'Connor (Custy's music) today he told me about a piece Gerdie Commane recorded with Paddy & Brigid from Japan which is on their site. It's the Kilnamona Barn Dance and you'll find it at http://www.custysmusic.com/mall/CustysTraditionalMusicShop/gerdie_commane_lo_res.htm. It's a lovely recording which takes you into ferdie's home in Kilnamona.

Sorry the link should have been http://www.custysmusic.com/mall/CustysTraditionalMusicShop/gerdie_commane.htm which enables you to select either high or normal quality. Apologies also for mis-spelling Gerdie's name in last line.
