A new fiddler?

A new fiddler?

With the recent death notices on this board, I thought we could cheer up by knowing that Donell Leahy and Natalie MacMaster became parents of Mary Frances Rose Leahy (7lb. 2 oz) on December 3. Nat had been performing nearly up to the day. Check her website for details: www.nataliemacmaster.com

Re: A new fiddler?

I wish I was Mary Leahy then I could be an amazing fiddler (even if did mean I'd have to change to a girl) ;)

Re: A new fiddler?

Blessings upon, and may she already have a fiddle in her hand.

But, Flamin, I'll bet she doesn't play very well.

Re: A new fiddler?

I'm sure she'll catch us up very quickly!

Re: A new fiddler?

yeah, I agree with Johnny J - but Cape Breton style fiddling isn't all that popular outside the minds of trad musicians (if you get what I mean) and to the untrained ear the tunes can sound a bit samey!

Re: A new fiddler?

In truth, I'm not a huge fan of Cape Breton music myself, flamin, but in it's defence I would say that "to the untrained ear" ALL traditional music sounds "a bit samey".

How many of us, for example, have had people come up to our treasured ITM session & ask if we only know the one tune, or are we just making it up as we go along.

I'm sure, once you get into it, Cape Breton music will be as varied, diverse & magnificent as any other trad on the planet.

Welcome to The World - 'Mary Frances Rose Leahy', may you have a long & happy life.

Re: A new fiddler?

I suppose Ptar, I'm not saying that I don't like Cape Breton music - Brenda Stubbert and Jerry Holland are a couple of my fave musicians.

Re: A new fiddler?

Health and Happiness to ye, Mary (and you, Natalie & Donnell). Expectations of the wee one might be a bit high, though... Any musician is welcome... Capers, Diddleys, and beyond.
