Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

A: They don't even attempt to change it, they just try to revive the old one

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

While arguing that the new ones don't work as well.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Q: How many session.orgers does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: 12

1 to complain about that the new bulb isn't as bright as the old one, which didn't need changing anyway
2 to argue about which is better, an anglo lightbulb or an english lightbulb
1 to compose a tune called The New Lightbulb
1 to say it's rubbish
1 to ask if it's okay if he sings a song while the lighbulb is changed
1 to say no it's not
1 to buy a round
2 to argue over whether light is a wave or a particle
1 to say they're both right

and finally...

1 clever sod to remind everyone that we're trad musicians who don't need dots and can play in the dark if we have to.

have I left any out?

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Seven.

One to change it, and six to *()&^*%^ about how it's electric.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Seven.

One to change it... the other six to write a song about how good the old one was!

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Only one light bulb, one bodhran, and one strummer is required in a session!

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

I've just written my first tune. Inspired by this thread it's called Smash the Lightbulb. I think it would go well in a set with Napoleon Changing the Lightbulb, then into the Scottish song The Lightbulb's Lassie, and ending (or maybe never ending) with The Humours of the Lighbulb. I'd appreciate it if you all could imagine the tune I've written and tell me what other tunes it's like. Thanks in advance.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Two.

One fellow to actually change it, and one CCE representative to tell him that the current is alternating at the wrong tempo to be considered "traditional."

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

How many uilleann pipers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Three. One to change it, one to fuss with it forever and ever because it's not quite bright enough, and another to complain that modern lightbulbs are crap and Seamus Ennis would have done a much better job.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Q - you forgot the other bystanders who would be there if this light bulb were in a session:

One who wants to check that the new lightbulb is authentic.

One who thinks light is just light, and why can't we use other sources of light, like this lamp he found in the late nineties.

One who notices that the old bulb now rattles, and can be held in the hand and shaken rhythmically.

Several members of a sort of "Old Boys Club" who spend the evening talking about light bulbs they have changed in the past.

One who totally hijacks the light-bulb changing exercise, by speculating on how many musicians can play simultaneously in the broom cupboard where the new light bulbs are stored.

One who thinks we should all dress in authentic light-bulb changing costume.

One who wants to discuss who is your favourite supplier of electricity to light your bulb.

One who thinks light bulb changing is far too serious a business to be undertaken on an ad-hoc basis, and should be done by professionals.

One who wants to know where she can get light bulb changing lessons for her three year old daughter.

A drunk who comes in from the bar and demands that you use an "Odannyboy" bulb.

A blonde woman who wants to video the whole exercise.

And a bloke with a digeridoo.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

". . .a digeridoo."

Might come in handy if the lightbulb is in a ceiling fixture.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

>Q: How many session.orgers does it take to change a lightbulb?

Well, Ptarmigan, Zina, GregthePianoTuner and I are the only ones who regularly show up week after week to change the lighbulbs, so I reckon we should get paid to do so.

Or at least drinks on the house.

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

Hey we're all here too - just cause we don't blab all the time, don't mean we ain't part of the session too. Some of us like to listen and try playing the tunes later. Or repeat selected jokes...

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

How many fiddlers does it take to screw in a light bulb?

three. one to change the bulb. a second to violently thrust the broken shards of the old bulb into the nearest bodhran. a third to stop the first from violently smashing the new bulb into the person of the spoons player.

How many Californian fiddlers does it take to change a light bulb?

Re: Q: How many folkies does it take to change a light bulb?

How many pipers does it take to screw in a lightbulb # 2?

One. He stands holding the lightbulb and the whole world revolves around him.

How many Irish traditional musicians does it take to change a lightbulb?

WHAT? We don't want no freakin' lightbulbs!!!! Things were so much better back when we had only wicks and candles. Electricity has simplified the music to modern ears.

Oh Conan, you've made an old man feel very, very happy.

One time soon I'll tell you about the time borrowed your name for something completely innocuous and nearly caused a disaster.

California fiddlers don't screw in light bulbs. They only screw in hot tubs.

Good idea sts, mines a cup of tea - with a surprise!

Silver Spear, you would like the pub I play in here, now & again. It has ye olde Gas lighting, so the atmosphere is kind of dark & dingy - just perfect for da toons!

How many pipers does it take to change a light bulb?

Only one, cause they're so used to screwing their drones & regulators in & out & in & out & in & out & in & out all night long!
Same goes for flute players!
