If you want to make a long-weekend of it, there are sessions at the Jolly Angler on Thursday and Saturday nights the Beech in Chorlton on Monday and the Peveril of the Peak on Tuesday night.
We played at the Peveril last Tuesday and intend to carry on but in the back room where the session used to be many many moons ago (better acoustics and less smoke).
Hi Brian, the Guy at the Ducie has expressed an interest in having a session there on a weekend, so I asked around and most people seemed to prefer the old Sunday lunchtime spot. I can arrange a date if there is enough support.
You have it right. The Session WAS a Sunday lunchtime affair and it had the most wonderful intimacy. No tune seemed too important that a chat didn't take place too.
The last time I played there was on a Wednesday night, must have been '94, and Bernard hosted that. Again, nice session, and always where I heard some lovely old tunes.
They only kicked Danny out of the Ducie a couple of years ago I heard, change of management, didn't like his style etc.
It was a wonderful education in listening, back in the early 70s, playing along with Danny. He had this trick of skipping a few bars randomly, like a scratched 78, and then glowering at those who found themselves out of synch.
Hi Paul, didn't he just. And lets not forget his playing in parallel 5ths occasionally.
You might be surprised but Danny learned all his tunes from Books.
Another startling revelation; he once turned up at the Duke of York Tuesday session.

Don't forget the Session at the Bear House on Friday; all welcome.
We have an upstairs room (Non- smoking) and the pub is having a mini beer festival.
The pub is 5 minutes from Victoria station and the Tram stop.
Kick-off 8:30pm.

The Ducie! Wow! Now there is a sessionb I do miss.
Old Danny, Bernard [ Lavery? Laverty? ], they were players who inspired me.
The culprits?
Eamonn McBride and Dick Lett! Those naughty men hijacked me one Easter Weekend back in the late 70s and I didin't get home for a week!
