I've just sublet my place in Salthill to dive down undah ... I'll be in Brisbane Dec. 4th-8th and Melbourne the 8th till the 14th... Just thought I'd give a shout out to the community at large... If anyone has any comments or suggestions (I've sussed out the local sessions and will hopefully drop in for a few tunes) as to my wandering about the fair land of Australia drop me a line!
In case you didn't know already, other sessions on while you are in Melbourne: Friday: The Celtic Club, at the top of the city at 320 Queen Street. Saturday: The Dan O'Connell, Carlton. I'll be looking in at the Quiet Man on that Sunday. Hope to catch you there.
Sunday 11th, I'll definately be there, two session.org members offline...
Also on the Monday night try the Lomond Hotel at 9pm (I think that one is still running) and the Cork Man on Thursday night, starting at 7pm. I'm fairly sure they're both still running. See you then.
I was in bunk hostel in brisvegas. They used to have a comp in their bar called birdee idol. I had a banjo with me and used to have a great time - free beers every now and then.
Should drop in and see if its still going. The staff are all cool, like most brissy locals. (Much better than sydney anyway).
Hi Mike. Just been checking your website. As a banjo man you should try to connect up with Tony O'Rourke while you're in Melbourne. He's about the best exponent of the banjo around these parts as well as a lovely guy. He's always at the Quiet Man, not sure about the other sessions.
I'll look him up. I won't be bringing a banjo, but I will have a mandolin - almost the same and it is a lot quieter so if I make a mistake no one notices <G>
I would definately second the comment about Tony (presuming I am thinking of the same person, which seems very likely). Mick Moloney was at the Cork Man a while ago, as was Tony, and Tony sounded easily as good, if not better.

Re: En Route to Oz
Well, it would be sinful not to drop into the Quiet Man of a Sunday night in Melbourne but you probably know that already.

Check out Sean Kenan's Fiddle News for a comprehensive list of ITM sessions in Melbourne. A great little newsletter for fiddle players anywhere.

I'll be in Melbourne from the 16th till the 29th so I can take over when Kjay leaves. The information on this list is great!
