I am searching for informations about a slow air : "the bright lady", which has been play on the pipes by Willie Clancy, and also by Padraic Mac Mathuna.
I would like to know its gaelic title(s), and where could I hear it?
"Eibhlí gheal chiún ni Chearbhaill", prehaps? recorded variously by Chieftains (III), Dick Gaughan as the solo break in Flowers of the Forest, and most astoundingly notably by John Martyn on a an (expletive deleted) leslied electric guitar?
I love the cut John Martyn does- guitar isn't leslied; its the speakers and the speakers rotate to get that out of phase/in phase sound- way cool. My kids always love that tune.
ps-I play that on my uilleann pipes sans Leslie speakers
Willie Clancy got the Bright Lady from Leo Rowsome, who also recorded it in the 1930's.
Leo got it from the P. W. Joyce collection. I think the Irish title, as Joyce has it, is
'An Bean Alainn Geal" which is "The Beautiful Bright Lady"
or it could be just An Bean Geal, lit. The Bright Lady.
There are no words to go with the melody.

Is this, by any chance the same as "bean a'leanna" which is a beautiful slow piece on Oisin MacDiarmada's album. I have been looking for the sheet music for this.

Re: A gaelic title
Would it be Aisling Gheal, you're thinking of by any chance but then this roughly translates as 'bright vision' or 'bright dream'.

Re: A gaelic title
"Leslied electric guitar"
So it's the "Father Ted" theme then?
