Teada in Lewisham, London

Teada in Lewisham, London

Teada @ Lewisham Irish Centre Thursday 10.11.05

Dear Friends,
I hope you can help us with some publicity for the brilliant new young Irish trad band,
on their second concert in London and at a new venue which is trying to establish itself.

Téada have released two albums, the first the eponymous Téada and last
year's follow up, La an Dreoilin (The Wren Day) ... which went under the
title "Give Us A Penny And Let Us Be Gone" in the US.

In addition the band have a number of live tracks featured in the double
album "Live From The Katherine Cornell Theatre" and the band's stellar
fiddler, Oisin MacDiarmada has released a solo album, "Ar an bhFidil" (On
Fiddle) and has appeared along with Brian Fitzgerald and Micheál O Ruanaigh
on the album "Traditional Music On Fiddle, Banjo and Harp". You can hear
clips from all of these albums at http://www.ceolproductions.com/cds2.html
(If you're not familiar with the band's output, give the clips a listen, so
you'll discover just how good the guys are!)

Whether or not you're into Irish Traditional Music, Téada's concert promises
to be a great night out. Presenting concerts by major-league Irish
Traditional acts is something of a new venture for Lewisham Irish Centre and
we're hoping for a big turn-out. A successful launch of the proposed series
of concerts by Irish acts is vital to the success of the proposed programme
as a whole.

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

If I was in England I'd go. Unfortunately being stuck in Texas I have to wait until December for Teada to come back. Still - if I may say so - they are an extremely talented band.

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

I know what you mean, musicfan. I have no idea when they'll be back in my area.

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

Hmm, they'll be in Ann Arbor, MI on April 23, 2006; and Conklin, MI on April 27, 2006 -

The best way that I've found to keep track of them is by going to their website http://www.teada.com and clicking on the tour info. They're pretty good about keeping it updated.

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

Thanks for putting up this thread, erm...Jenny (?)
Thought I might help by giving some directions. First, here's a map pinpointing The Lewisham Irish Centre, let's hope this link works:
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=537957&y=174148&z=1&sv=537750,174250&st=4&ar=Y&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf

Then there's a spidermap of buses in Ladywell (suburb of Lewisham):
http://www.tfl.gov.uk/buses/spiders/pdf/ladywell.pdf

The stations Ladywell and also Catford & Catford Bridge (being very near to each other but served by different lines) Have trains arriving at the following times:
London Charing Cross Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 20:08 20:32 24 mins
London Blackfriars Catford 0 South Eastern Trains 20:13 20:31 18 mins
London Blackfriars Catford 0 South Eastern Trains 19:47 20:04 17 mins
London Bridge Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 19:47 20:02 15 mins
London Waterloo East Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 19:41 20:02 21 mins
London Charing Cross Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 19:38 20:02 24 mins
London Waterloo East Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 19:10 19:30 20 mins
London Charing Cross Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 19:07 19:30 23 mins
London Bridge Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 18:51 19:07 16 mins
London Waterloo East Catford Bridge 0 South Eastern Trains 18:46 19:07 21 mins

Hope all this makes sense when it is displayed at thesession once I post it.
If you're coming from East or Central London, think about taking the DLR then bussing it from Lewisham

Getting back? N171, and other N buses going via Lewisham. However, we might try and get the lads down to the Blythe for a session afterwards (about a mile away) or maybe even Shillelagh's (about 50 yards away...but the Blythe is a much better venue. We'll see.)

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

Make sense? I hope so. I just copied & pasted relevant details of a page that looked like it was just "streamed" or whatever. The centre itself used to have a site but hat seems to be gone. Thankfully. It was a bit depressing. THe "New Look" Irish Centre will be a totally different animal altogether.

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

Danny and Jenny (concurring with Danny's guess!) ...

Many thanks ... I dropped a wee line about this some time ago, and was reluctant to start another thread personally. Thankfully the gig's got another little burst of publicity and all at the Lewisham Irish Centre will be grateful for that.

Looking forward to some mighty steam tomorrow night!

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

BTW, Aidan I mentioned to Con in the Blythe to expect either:
1. A small or maybe no session tonight as numbers may be down, cos of the gig.
2. A small or maybe no session tonight followed by a deluge of players, yokes, hangers-on and drunkards later on, ie after the gig.

As ever, nothing was a problem for him.

Depends if we all go back there (time permitting) or just fall into Shillellagh's (next door, near enough.)

Re: Teada in Lewisham, London

Many thanks to Chris, Aidan and other members of the management committee who made last night a great success.

Chris did a great job up on stage as well, fronting an excellent thrown-together-at-the-last-minute band comprising himself on flute, Christian Vaughan Spruce on box, Johnnie Gaughan on guitar, plus a young bodhrán player (very good) whom I hadn't seen before. They did a half hour set of reels jigs, slip jigs and polkas, before handing over to the lovely, the one and only, Helen Roche, who enthralled us with her singing of some classics from her repertoire. She was backed by an excellent guitarist/bouzouki? player, sorry, I don't recall his name (was it Andy Metcalfe?)

Then Teada came on and really kicked ass. Great band.

Not forgetting the sterling job done by Aidan as MC....you're a natural!

Great evening, hoping many more will follow....but, please, any other night than Thursday (the Blythe session night!)
