in the mind

from what i can extricate from my mind it goes something liek this
its a reel by the way
DEFA 2dCA G3E GABC AddC d
thats about as far as i get but i really need the rest

Re: in the mind

You need to work on your abcs. Where are the bars for example. And did you mean to put the 2 in front of the d, or after the A?

Re: in the mind

its a reel
thence
eight notes per bar, i ve broken what i can figure out into grousp of four
the bars are implicit
the 2 is for the d
and the 3 before the E is for a roll on the E there i think
umm more precision, maybe the c's are natural
i know its a long shot to just have those notes but its the start and its all i can come up with left there imprinted on the brain

Re: in the mind

Um, it doesn't match the 2nd bar you've given, but the first bar is a bit like Fisherman's Island (Long shot but worth a try)

Re: in the mind

The East Clare Reel (DEFA d2cA|GEED) and the Boogie Reel (DEFA d2cd|BAFB ) start similarily but diverge.

Re: in the mind

Yeah, it's probably McGreevy's Favourite, or what Donough calls The East Clare Reel: http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display.php/3065 I guess you play it in Dmix.

Re: in the mind

Isn't it maddening when you only have a fragment ?
I was standing by the bustop in Tottenham Court Road when a fragment of a minor/myxolydian reel came into my head. If I could have played it it might have firmed up. As it was, it was gone by the time I was home. Perhaps I should have rushed back to Hobgoblin and played it on a mando till it was set in the head and the fingers ?
Standing By The Bustop. That's what I'll call it if it ever comes back.

Re: in the mind

thanks people i knew you could do it!
that is the one and i also got to find out where i must have gleaned it from in will harmon's posting of the tune: mike mcgoldrick recorded playing it live somewhere on the net
its funny where you pick bits of tunes up like that on the move and then a few days or weeks pass by and the bits reappear and annoy you until you have to act
thanks again to all, i now have three tunes to learn as opposed to the one i set out upon :-)
