just wondering do any know much about this course?? whats in it?? what are you qualified to do when you complete it??whats it like? etc.
info and opinions greately appreciated
Jimmy O'Brien Moran and Marie Na Ghrada were teachers at our piping tionol; I would not HESITATE to take classes from either of them. Both are teaching/degrees from Limerick.
Remember that academia may or may not resemble the thing you are trying to learn
Roughest part of the Republic of Ireland, but i'm sure it's not that bad. I was thinking of it. BA is a good qualification. I think any of these courses would be good as they give you regular tuition and give you a good foundation or stepping stone if you like into the next step which is being a proffesional musician.
As for opinions. I'm hoping to get my master's in Ethnomusicology somewhere. UL would be great, but as a Texan I'm not sure what my chances of actually getting in are.
I'm seriously considering UL's MA in trad music if I don't make it into my first choice of grad schools, which is Cambridge for psych, kind of. The program I'm applying to at Cambridge is pretty unique to Cambridge. It's not like you can get the same degree at a less prestigious university. So UL as backup is the f***-you-world, I'm studying uilleann pipes! plan.
Of course, the main difference is that a degree in a completely academic subject that has little practical value from Cambridge looks much better than a degree in a completely academic subject that has little practical value from the University of Limerick.
Alright, alright, I'll try and wait until after next weekend. That would kind of throw off my plans of coming up anyways. Besides, the only guys in striking distance are all collegiate music majors. That doesn't bode well for the criteria listed above . . .
Dinner, yes, very important, so too for me are : concert tickets and trips to Ireland.

Re: irish music course in limereick
Might I suggest going to the university's website and looking for that information. They have all of that listed.

Or maybe I am just cynical.

Re: irish music course in limereick
Cool, me too. Except that I'm gonna need more fiddles, banjos, hammer dulcimers, mountain dulcimers, and anything else that I can come up with.

Re: irish music course in limereick
Music majors? Definitely not.
Go with with people majoring in a "real" subject like physics, chem, or engineering.
