In discussions on this site Irish songs are often mentioned as being standard for some sessions. What are your favourite session songs, and are there any sites that would have the lyrics and music to a lot of traditional Irish songs?
It's not the song but the approach and/or musicianship. I've heard some songs I'm sick of delivered in a way that got were done great & on the same note I've heard some of my favorites crucified.
celtic-lyrics.com/lyrics is not too bad a little too patriotic though
I like hot ashpalt and the rocky road to dublin and no I dont work for F.M. Conway just in case you recognised the link
Black Velvet Band then straight into the Wild Rover and finishing up by going straight into Flower of Scotland. Can make it last about ten minutes. If you have the right crowd in, it'll stand them on their heads.
From NE Scotland:
"Yellows on the Broom" and "Tatties & Herrin'" can get a bit tiresome to some but we had a good singer giving them out last night and they were great.
BVB, WR and Awful Hoor o'Scotland would be great to hear in Geelong Dave, but are a bit tired here, especially if it's Sunday night and you're sober.

Re: Favourite Session Songs
Jimi, try Mudcat. Tunes and all about playing them, tends to be more of the thing over here, but over there they discuss songs and lyrics endlessly:

Oh, and you have to hit the lyrics database.

Re: Favourite Session Songs
If I feel like a song then I might launch into
"A million green bottles standing on a wall"
After the first few verses nearly everyone has the words!

Hi Dave Cunningham!
Were you at the National Celtic Festival in June?
Sorry to have missed you! That was my first interstate visit, and believe me, it couldn't have been nicer than to meet up and have a few tunes.
