How to Copy Sound Files From The Session onto a CD

How to Copy Sound Files From The Session onto a CD

Hi,

I've tried to download sound files from The Session onto an audio CD so I can learn them using my Amazing Slow Downer program, but it won't work with my Windows Media player. I have a brand-new IBM laptop, so I think my computer will suppost this with the right software. Is there any Shareware for this?

Many thanks to anyone who can give me a hint on this!

Dan,

Tell me an example of a sound file (I assume it's from a web site link in a thread - if so, the name of the discussion thread).

What happens when you try to play the file in Windows Media Player? Do you get an error message?

If you’re talking about the “sound files” in the Tunes section, they are MIDI files, not direct audio files. To make an audio CD, you can play the MIDI file and capture the audio stream with something like Windows Media Player or Total Recorder. Then you can save it as an audio file – wav, mp3, etc. To make an ordinary audio CD, save it as a wav file, then burn it to the CD.

Thanks, Bob - I forgot all about the MIDI files option in the tunes section.

If it's the Midi files you don't need an amazing slow downer or a CD - just an ABC program with playback. You can copy the ABC in and edit the tempo field.

How do you get an ABC program? This is not something regularly on the computer is it?

You go to the Links section, click on Categories, and choose ABC software. Just follow your nose from there.

'I don't mean to put too much of a downer on this one, but you really shouldn't be learning tunes from the midi files here. "Alright, alright" I here you say, "all I'm getting from it is the order of the notes." But you must be careful. That complete lack of rythm may worm its way into your phsyche. Don't let it. Almost everything about this site is splendedlt brilliant. But I do wish Jeremy could remove the midi bit.

I like having the MIDI option. I would *never* learn a tune from it, but when I've never heard the tune before, it's a convenient way to get a quick idea of whether it's something I want to pursue.

Oh, I just realized you had said you wanted to make CD's in order to use the Slow Downer. So Kerri has the solution.

Thanks so much all, I got it now. These MIDI files help me figure out if my melodeon has all the notes for a tune I'd like to learn, so that's my intent. Gotta be careful when you only have 20 of them! You guys were really helpful, and I appreciate it!

Hi
Im a new lad from Clare. See ye discussing file down load for playing on ASD. Well I have ASD and cannot get it to work properly. It keeps telling me to change the playback settings and no matter what i do it does not work. Plays half or maybe a minute of the tune and then stop.
